What is Super Duplex 2507 Plate?

ASTM A240 Type 2507 Super Duplex Plate must conform to the ASTM A240 standards. It is a specification of chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plates. Super Duplex 2507 Plate is used in general applications and in vessels. It could be delivered as cold rolled or hot rolled. ASTM A240 Type 2507 Duplex Sheet is an alloy used for applications with high strength and corrosion resistance. 2507 (UNS S32750) is a super duplex stainless steel designed for applications which require exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. 2507 is a 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel alloy resulting in excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion attack. The duplex structure provides ASTM A240 S32750 super duplex steel plate highly resistant to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

Usage of 2507 should be limited to applications below 600° F (316° C). Extended exposure to elevated temperatures can reduce its toughness and corrosion resistance.

2507 Coil can be applied in high corrosive applications where ordinary steel coils would not stand. SA 240 GR 2507 Sheet has greater mechanical properties. Super Duplex 2507 Plate can have much stronger yield than other alloys. As a result, the Saf 2507 Plate structure weighs low than a similar structure with a nickel alloy. Super Duplex 2507 Sheet structures can be very cost effective in fabrication as they cause less weight.

Duplex 2507 Plate has corrosion resistance to acidic substances and reduces localized corrosion and uniform corrosion. 2507 Super Duplex Sheet can seamlessly withstand inorganic acids, especially the ones with chloride ions. As it contains very less to no carbon, it is very much resistant to intergranular corrosion. SA 240 GR 2507 has very high stress corrosion cracking even in warm environments due to the ferrtic phase of the alloy. The addition of nitrogen, molybdenum and chromium also provide extra improvements to pitting and crevice attack resistance to Saf 2507 PlateDuplex 2507 Stainless Steel Coils can be used in chemical applications where acidic content is involved.

General Corrosion
The high chromium and molybdenum content of 2507 makes it extremely resistant to uniform corrosion by organic acids like formic and acetic acid. 2507 also provides excellent resistance to inorganic acids, especially those containing chlorides.

In dilute sulfuric acid contaminated with chloride ions, 2507 has better corrosion resistance than 904L, which is a highly alloyed austenitic steel grade specially designed to resist pure sulfuric acid.

Stainless steel of type 316L (2.5%Mo) cannot be used in hydrochloric acid due to the risk of localized and uniform corrosion. However, 2507 can be used in dilute hydrochloric acid. Pitting need not be a risk in the zone below the borderline in this figure, but crevices must be avoided.
