The Function of Flange Isolation Gasket Kits

Flange isolation kits serve two primary functions in a flanged pipeline system. Firstly, they prevent direct contact between the metal parts of flanges on either side, thereby avoiding large galvanic cell formation and consequently reducing corrosion.
Secondly, the gasket material can provide cathodic protection for the flange. This process involves sacrificing the gasket to protect the flange. Oil and gas companies often opt to replace corroded gaskets, which is far more efficient than replacing the flanges themselves.
While these fundamental chemical principles apply to all metal pipes, each operation has unique requirements. Therefore, a gasket isolation kit distributor should offer a diverse range of products to meet specific operational needs.

Types of Gasket Isolation Kits

There are four major types of gasket isolation kits available in the market – Types F, E ,D, & O. Each type of flange kit fits flanges with a specific type of flange faces (RF, FF, & RTJ).

  • Type F: Designed to fit Ring Type gaskets
  • Type E: Designed to fit Full Face gaskets
  • Type D: Designed to fit Ring Groove or RTJ (ring-type-gasket)
  • Type O: Designed extra sealing element on both sides of the device, generally, PTFE, Nitrile or Viton Rubber, and are available in both ring and full face design (type E and F). Type O Gaskets are manufactured with phenolic and G-10 materials. The materials for insulation sleeves are, by default, polyethylene or phenolic.
